My week-long loss of taste and smell. Yes, you can laugh but I went down with the flu last week. Even though I’d pretty much recovered, I still couldn’t smell or taste anything and that’s more depressing than you might think. Life seemed drained of fun, pleasure, sweetness and scent. I was preparing for a life of dry bread and water. Well, there was little point eating anything else if I couldn’t taste it. Then suddenly, out of the blue, everything was fine again. Happiness, quite simply, is gratitude. And as I garner almost absurd levels of pleasure from this piece of toast I’m eating, I honestly couldn’t be happier.
I was starting to think it was permanent.
