Which obviously means kids will be off school. But now it increasingly means that adults will be off work too. “I’m not in next week”, I’ve heard quite a few grown-ups say, “It’s half-term”. “How old are you?” I’m tempted to reply “Twelve?” I’ve no problem with a work/life balance and you’d be hard pushed to find a dad who spent more time with his kids than I did. But I never took a week off just because it was half-term. Nobody did. Though of course “I’m not in, it’s half-term” isn’t only about wanting to spend time with the kids; it’s about wanting to be admired for doing so. So take a bow, Mr. Hands-On Half-Term Dad. And while you’re at it, give us a couple of verses of this.
It’s half term.
