Just when we all thought nothing could top Liverpool’s unbelievable victory over Barcelona in the Champions’ League semi-final, Tottenham repeated the feat 24 hours later. If anything, their triumph was even more astonishing. With nothing like Liverpool’s European pedigree, they too trailed 3-0 on aggregate but an injury-time leveller against Ajax in Amsterdam made it 3-3 and Spurs went through on away goals. You felt almost sorry for commentators. Their entire lexicon of superlatives had already been used up on Liverpool and they had to repeat them all for Spurs. Yet, as my mate Jason pointed out, would Spurs have done it without witnessing what Liverpool had done the night before? They saw that even the most unlikely victories are possible, and so refused to give up. Whatever. This is still the best word to describe it.
“Unbelievable!” Part 2.
