Valentine’s Day.

Traditionally the most romantic day of the year. Though a marriage guidance counsellor once told me that the biggest problem she encounters between couples is – wait for it – unromantic women. Howl and object as much as you like, that’s what she said. And Valentine’s Day is a prime example. While there’s pressure on the man to buy the champagne and roses and book the table at the romantic restaurant, there’s very little pressure on the woman to do anything. Yes of course, the world is full of unromantic men too but this trait is apparently more prevalent in women. So if you think this karaoke classic is saccharine and schmaltzy rather than a romantic expression of love, you’re statistically more likely to be a woman.
