I watched Songs of Praise last night.

But I have an excuse. My daughter’s school were finalists in School Choir of the Year and…… they won. They were fantastic and we were all very proud. Having never watched this dreadful programme before, I recognised the chubby smiling, artificially earnest host. It was David Grant, once one half of Linx who brought us this: one of the truly great early Brit Funk tracks. “He used to be really cool”, I said, instantly realising that this was a very un-cool thing the say. But then I was watching Songs of Praise. My daughter looked at David Grant then looked at me and I could tell what she was thinking: “You’re lying”
