If you are, my old friend Ken New may be the reason why. Satellite TV, to put it mildly, was not an instant success. In fact, in the early days, Sky were on the brink of going under. Ken had booked some airtime for a campaign of TV commercials but was told that Sky may be forced into liquidation before the ads could run. But instead of cancelling the airtime and leaving them to their fate, Ken went to his finance director and asked for a very large sum of money to pay for the airtime in advance. This was unprecedented. But it meant Sky were then able to survive, thrive and conquer the world. All thanks to Ken. Though as a QPR fan, forced to watch my team regularly humiliated on Sky, I’m not sure I should be thanking him at all.
Are you watching Arsenal/Chelsea on Sky today?
