Despite the admirable advances of feminism, there’s one area of the workplace that is still totally male-dominated: the playing of electric guitars. Think of the thousands of times you’ve seen this instrument played and it’s always by a man. Ironically the body of an electric guitar is said to reflect the waist and curves of a woman, so why are only men allowed to handle it? Hmm, I think I may have just answered my own question. The acoustic guitar is different. There’s something wonderful about a woman playing an acoustic guitar, especially if she sings too. Yesterday, my friend Lizzie Stanley did just that. We were working in a Soho sound studio, there was a guitar in the corner and she just picked it up and played. Myself and the engineer were transfixed. Don’t we all love the cool, almost spiritual sound of one female voice and a guitar? Have a listen to this tell me it isn’t one of the most exquisite sounds you’ve ever heard.
