I knew I’d (sort of) grown up when I realised that Songs for Swingin’ Lovers was one of the greatest albums ever made. It was the first LP to feature a suite of songs with a common theme rather than just a random selection of tracks. And that theme, of course is love. In 1956, Frank Sinatra was at the top of his game. His mellifluous swagger and Nelson Riddle’s impeccable arrangements created a soundtrack of cool sophistication that has never been matched. I love every song, particularly this one. Except for that one word: “tea”. I find tea so repellent that I pretend I’m allergic to it. I cannot think of a more disgusting, less romantic drink than tea. If you feel the same, just do what I do: Go “Beeep!” when Sinatra sings it.
Glorious love song. Except for one word.
