The other New Year’s resolution that’s never going to happen.

I know already that in 2014, I will again fail to take up a musical instrument. I’d give anything (except clearly time and effort) to be able to play the guitar or piano but I really had intended to take up the ukelele. It’s supposed to be the easiest instrument to master but, I fear, not quite easy enough for me. I’ve been meaning to take it up for years, ever since I saw the fantastic Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain playing above a pub in Islington. Their set comprised tunes you’d never associate with that little instrument, including a great version of this. But I think I’m going to have to face facts. I’ll never play the ukelele. I doubt if I’ll even bang a drum.
