And the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. I have nothing to add to the horror and revulsion felt by all civilised people at the Holocaust, the most abhorrent example in history of man’s inhumanity to man. I think it’s important that it’s observed every year so that nothing like it can ever happen again. Born and bred in North London, I have a huge love for Jewish people and a virulent hatred of anti-Semitism, which is invariably fuelled by jealousy. This may be because, for such a tiny fraction of the world’s populace, the Jewish contribution to practically every field of human endeavour has been colossal. In art, music, science, literature, medicine, business and politics, Jewish people have always excelled. In music, for instance, it’s hard to know where to begin, so I’ll just pick a recent random example.
Yesterday was Holocaust Memorial Day.
