Never a great singer, he was nonetheless a huge star in the early 60s, in that strange post-rock’n’roll, pre-Beatles era. This is probably the only good record he ever made but he was a smart and resourceful survivor. He came from nothing, lived on his wits and never, ever gave up. When the “singing” career fizzled out, he re-invented himself as an actor in the 70s and a financial guru in the 80s before returning to acting in the 90s. I met him then and he was terrific company, immensely likeable. He died of a heart attack in 2003 in a hotel room with a woman who wasn’t his wife. Despite that, or maybe because of it, I always preferred him to the “saintly” Cliff Richard. Just saying.
I always liked Adam Faith.
