But I’m going to say it. Fantastic songwriters but other people generally sang their songs way better than they did. How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? You’d go for the Al Green version every time. Heartbreaker? Dionne Warwick. Chain Reaction? Diana Ross. Nights on Broadway? Candi Staton. The list goes on. As for this one, the Bee Gees’ version is dreadful so it can only ever be Kenny and Dolly. After her triumphant showing at Glastonbury the other night, it’s suddenly okay to like Dolly Parton. Some of us always did. But then, we’re the same people who always liked The Bee Gees.
The thing you’re not allowed to say about the Bee Gees.
