Max Veerstapen won the Spanish Grand Prix yesterday. He’s 18. Eighteen?? Yes, he may have only won because Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg had a spectacular crash but he’s a Grand Prix-winning Formula 1 driver at 18. Surely he hasn’t been alive long enough to have learned to drive that well. It is an astonishing achievement. There have always been sporting prodigies – Pele, Ryan Giggs, Boris Becker – but football and tennis can be played and practised obsessively from a very early age. Driving a car is slightly different. You have to be a certain age before you can even reach the pedals. Music has always had its prodigies too. This child is probably the most famous. He was singing live. And he was seven years younger than Max Veerstapen.
Boy Racer.
