Long before I started collecting singles obsessively, my mum, dad and three older sisters bought them regularly so my house was full of them even before I was born. I learned to stack them and play them when I was about four and I haven’t stopped doing that to this day. One of my favourites as a four year old DJ was this. And with Fats Domino’s death this week at the age of 89, I gave it a spin for the first time in years and on hearing it again, I noticed something that had never occurred to me before. This was recorded in 1959 and – just listen to those offbeats – I think Fats unwittingly invented ska and reggae.
God, I loved this record.
