For the first time in about fifteen years, I went to McDonald’s. I hadn’t eaten all day and was starting to get “hangry” so a Big Mac and fries seemed a quick and perfect cure. McDonald’s had changed dramatically. It’s now more like Argos. You place your order at a touchscreen digital kiosk, you’re assigned a number and you wait. And you wait. And you wait. The whole point of McDonald’s was its immediacy. You ordered your food and they gave it to you. In and out in two minutes. Fifteen minutes later, I was still waiting. I no longer wanted my Big Mac and fries and got a refund. Apparently, they now make everything to order. They think this a good thing but it isn’t. Unless the food is served very quickly, McDonald’s is pointless. As pointless as Ronan Keating’s version of this.
Whatever happened to fast food?
