Mixed feelings about him. On the one hand, he is very funny. On the other, you do feel like saying to him. “Yes, there are many reasons to dislike David Cameron but simply being posh isn’t one of them”. This tired left-wing shtick from middle-class comedians is now as dated and “establishment” as Bernard Manning in a frilly shirt telling jokes about his mother-in-law. I worked with Jeremy Hardy once. He’d just come from the dentist. Being a performer, he said, he could claim for his dental work against tax. Even better, he could claim for his clothes too. He wasn’t supposed to because he works on radio not TV but, he chuckled, the taxman doesn’t know that. The hypocrisy was breathtaking but somehow not surprising. “Good for you, Jeremy”, I was tempted to say, “Pay as little tax as possible. Those wicked Tories will only spend it on Trident”
