You hear a track, you don’t what it is or who it’s by, so you hold your phone to the speaker and the Shazam app tells you. Shazam is one of the many marvels of the modern world that I cannot begin to understand. As I get older, I expect to be increasingly baffled by technological wizardry. I was sitting writing in a coffee shop when this track came on. I bought it back in the 80s, played it countless times when I was DJ-ing but could not remember what it was called. I used to know every record I’d ever bought but that is a faculty that’s clearly deserting me. Still, one good thing about getting older – you just don’t care. So I had no qualms about standing on my chair in a crowded coffee shop and holding my phone up to the speaker.
Don’t you just love shazam?
