I’ve known people who’ve moved out to Sussex. And they’ve usually been a bit smug about it. “So much more for your money” they say, before crowing that they can buy a castle with a moat where they live for the price of a flat where I do. More for your money? I always think they get less. Less diversity, fewer interesting cultures, cuisines and places to go. And all that commuting – such an inefficient and expensive way to live. Especially as these poor wretches are suffering a third consecutive day of rail strikes on Southern Trains. And right now, almost cruelly, we in London can boast that two more tube lines will be providing a 24 hour service at weekends. So this track feels quite apt. Though in Sussex they may not know what a night train is. Or for that matter, a day train.
