As he grieves for his daughter Peaches who died yesterday. Geldof is famously difficult and irascible but a magnificent human being who has done so much for his fellow man. Yet he’s suffered so much in his personal life. There can be no greater tragedy than the death of a son or daughter and it’s hard to imagine how it must feel because we simply won’t allow ourselves to. Peaches was just 25 and the older you get, the younger that seems. To me, despite having two kids of her own, she was little more than a child. Though Buddy Holly, because he died before I was born, was always “old”. And yet he was even younger, just 22 when that plane crashed. It’s not always the length of your life that’s important but what you do with it. Peaches Geldof did plenty. But like Buddy Holly, it’s just a terrible shame she couldn’t be around to do even more.
This morning our hearts go out to Bob Geldof.
