Commercial television in the UK has been celebrating its diamond jubilee this week. I’ve worked in advertising since I left school, so I have to doff my cap to the industry that has provided me with practically everything I’ve ever owned. Plus a wife, two children and countless great friends. Over the years, most of us have put famous tracks on TV commercials. I used this one for British Gas, not long after it was released and as far as I know, they’re still using it. I cannot imagine how many noughts I must have added to Blur’s bank accounts. But if you’ve ever wondered how Alex James could spend £1 million on cocaine and still have enough to buy a big farm and start making cheese, now you know.
Sixty years of ITV.
