A memoir entitled “Rock Stars Stole My Life”. Mark is one of the greatest music journalists this country has ever produced and one of the nicest blokes you could ever wish to meet. Given his astonishing CV: Record Mirror, the NME, editor of Smash Hits, Q and The Word; presenter of the Old Grey Whistle Test and Live Aid, he retains the humility and happy enthusiasm of a true fan. His stories are fabulous and he told an hour’s worth just now. My favourite was about Van Morrison in which he wondered how such beautiful, romantic music could be written by such a sour and horrible man. “There are two types of people”, he said, “Those who like Van Morrison. And those who’ve actually met him”.
To Soho House for Mark Ellen’s book launch.
