Since the election of Donald Trump, around half of Americans will be tucking into their turkey this evening feeling very thankful for what they’ve got. The other half are still in horrified shock. And yet it’s the liberals who, for one reason at least, have reason to be thankful. The President is supposed to be a figure of fun. Carter, Reagan, Clinton, Bush. All mercilessly satirised and rightly so. This noble tradition came to a halt with Obama. It was seen as wrong – almost racist – to laugh at this supposedly saintly figure and so for the last eight years, satirists became part of the establishment. Now they are back on the outside mocking the establishment. And The Donald will no doubt be the most mocked US president in history. Which means that George W Bush will be very thankful for what they’ve got.
Thanksgiving.
