Frank Sinatra would have been 100 today. In the 1940s he was an international star but then his career went into serious decline. Its nadir must have been a show he did in the early 50s at the Kilburn State, which was practically at the end of my road. Apparently, it was half empty and Sinatra had to ask those up in the circle to come down and fill the seats in the stalls. Shortly afterwards, his career improved dramatically. He was given a plum role in From Here to Eternity for which he won an Oscar and the rest is history. So what happened? How did Frank Sinatra go from singing at the end of my road to becoming the most celebrated vocalist of the 20th century? How did he get that life-changing movie role? If you don’t know, perhaps you should start reading The Godfather.
