I’m talking about current closing time at Highgate Wood. Five minutes’ walk from my house, it’s the perfect urban space. It’s got everything – proper woods leading through to a big open field for football and cricket, a wonderful children’s playground where mine spent many happy hours, and a brilliant cafe serving great food and proper Italian ice cream. It closes at dusk so, in the dark depths of winter, that’s 4.30. But it works its way up in 15 minute increments to 9.45 by the end of June. Today, as I cut through to the tube, I noticed it was 5.15 so the nights are getting lighter and life is getting better so this record is to celebrate that. If only I could find a track called 9.45.
