Mike and Bernie Winters, “comedy’ double-act hugely popular in the 60s and 70s. Mike, like David, was the more serious of the two. Bernie, like Ed, was the one people took less seriously. In their early days, Mike was on stage at the Glasgow Empire doing his schtick and Bernie appeared from behind the curtain. “Oh no!” shouted a drunk in the audience, “there’s two of them”. Isn’t that how we feel about the Milibands? One somehow devalued the other simply because there were two of them doing the same thing. It’s often said that Labour chose the wrong Miliband for leader and they probably did. Ed, to put it mildly, has not been a big hit with the voters. Labour might have been better off with Bernie Winters.
I’ve suddenly remembered who the Milibands remind me of.
